Q and A Frequently Asked Questions from Families
What is the age range of the au pair?
They are usually between 23 and 30 years old.
Can we choose our own au pair from several people?
No, I introduce the one I think is the best. You are not absolutely obliged to accept the person you are introduced to, so if you don’t like her/him, you can decline In that case, I will introduce you to a different person.
Does the au pair have experience with children?
It depends on the person. But they all love children. You can know if they have experience or not in advance on their profile.
How long does an au pair stay at a time?
Usually 3months. If you like each other, you can extend. If you want her to stay for a longer period of time, the Aupair will promise to stay for a longer period of time at that time, but it often happens that she will leave earlier because the schedule has changed specifically when you found a backpacker by yourself. You don’t know if you will be able to get along with her for 6 months at first, and after 3 months, the au pair may get bored with her daily life, and this will show in her attitude, and things may not go well. In my experience, 3 months is the best time to leave each other.
Can they drive and cook?
It depends on the person. If you request it, I will find someone who can drive and cook.
Do we pay an allowance to the au pair?
The family pays an allowance if they exceed 18 hours of help per week.
Usually family pays around $20-25/hour.
E,g, 30 hours help = 30-18=12 extra hours around $250-$270 pocket money
HAHA does not set an allowance; HAHA recommends that you follow Fairwork discipline. If you would like to know the current minimum hourly wage in Australia, please click here.
Do you guarantee that she will be with us for 3 months?
The stay period is not guaranteed for either the family or the au pair. This is because there can be sudden moves, divorces, family emergencies, illnesses, and so on. Au pairs usually stay for the agreed period of time. If the family treats you like a slave, or if the house is too uncomfortable (extremely dirty, no air conditioning), you may leave early. Make sure to give feedback to each other every week to solve problems and listen to your au pair to avoid cancellation😉
Can she take care of my baby?

Do the girls have insurance?

Do I have to cook all three meals?
